I think that's a bit of an overreaction.

I didn't mean *literally*. If YF shoots anybody, nobody should even question that post. K?

Arizona is trying to draft a law to make it illegal to protest at funerals. Seems a clear violation of free speech.

You boys might want to get down there and make your solemn stand for the Constitution with the Westboro folks.

Paul Krugman, another liberal who can spot the splinter in his brother's eye, but doesn't notice the beam in his own:

"A message to progressives: By all means, hang Senator Joe Lieberman in effigy."

The courts will take care of that one pretty fast. If they don't, well, I have *other* alternatives. If you know what I mean...

Are you even paying attention? It's already begun.

If history is a guide, ANY legislation proposed and passed in the immediate aftermath of a tragic and emotional event tends to be ill-conceived and has unintended, far-reaching and often negative effects.

  9. I don't believe the King link belongs in the category of the other two posted. Gun control and free speech are separate issues.

As for the other two, they are an example of folks going too far. There's a difference between asking people to think about the ramifications of what they say and criminalizing their right to say it.

    What?

Are there plans to invade Glockistan?

    This.

No, Sarah Palin shouldn't be criminally responsible for an event like this (even if he HAD been motivated by the Tea Party rhetoric, which I think we've all come to agree he wasn't). But that doesn't make this a bad time to collectively rethink the language we're using in the national dialogue.

Asking someone not to say something isn't an infringement of their first amendment rights.

    See Patriot Act.

As far as the Brady proposal... I would have to see how it's written, but I wonder if current law isn't sufficient for dealing with threats.

I don't know how any reasonable person can argue with the idea that we need to take a deep breath and think about what we say. But Rep. Clyburn should have stopped at "calling on elected officials and pundits to use better judgment."
