You just have to go back to Nov. 2 for evidence of that, right?

I think that you could as effectively make the case that she cost Republicans the Senate as that she had any positive effect. She helped candidates in the primaries, among the "base." Some of those candidates ended up harming the party in the general election, including Christine O'Donnell, most notably.

Yes, applying the term "blood libel" to herself is a tricky business. As a comparative in the examples on the National Review blog, it seems to work best when you're talking about a long-held slander against a particular group of people. So the "blood libel" about black men defiling white womanhood makes sense, but Republicans committing "blood libel" against Al Gore is over-the-top.

Also interesting in the National Review blog is that no example there had a person claiming a blood libel was being done to himself or herself individually. Add that Giffords is Jewish, and the use of the term becomes even more uncomfortable.

Bottom line is that, blood libel or no, Sarah Palin picked the day of the memorial for the shooting victims to hold herself out as a victim, too. At a minimum, that's horrible, horrible timing.

I would guess there are a lot of people in relatively low-level positions wondering if all the crap is worth it. I would think that, say, there were people rethinking running for school board after what happened with the guy in Panama City. Again, not that there would be a partisan reason for being targeted, but it's a matter of how much you feel like you're exposing yourself to the crazies that exist among the public.

What did they pick up in the Senate, five seats? Not exactly like they had a bad night.

I'll grant you Delaware, although the problem with that is Castle was a Dem in GOP clothing anyway. And who else do you suggest was going to beat Reid?

And in 2012, when the Dems are defending 21 seats and the GOP just 10 (who all won in a landslide year for Dems in 2006) the margins are going to really change.

What's with the silly smiley face icon that's always on screen? I assume it's a watermark for the website, but it makes her look even more amateurish.

Given your prognostication record (ESPECIALLY in '08, when anyone who hadn't figured out the eventual
POTUS winner by late September had a real problem with basic cause/effect), I'd chill out. The state of the economy during next year's warmer months will be a key indicator.
