Jack Shaffer has some interesting food for thought.

When the information flow starts to dwindle, should newspapers scale back the coverage of an ongoing story to match, at least until there is something of substance to report?

They should start planning their coverage of the one-year, five-year and 10-year anniversaries. There's a meeting next Tuesday. Bring your chart ideas.

My media issue with the Palin speculation wasn't the speculation itself, but the palpable glee - sometimes cloaked as outrage - that some partisan outlets speculated with.

And some wingnuts are accusing Obama of lying about this:

There is even disapproval over Obama leaving out the name of the shooter and his mother.

My question about Obama is this:

How many more days is he going to exploit this tragedy for positive publicity it is bringing him? I mean, it is a good strategy considering we know his presidency has been a train wreck and the economy still sucks and all, but how many more rhetoric-filled speeches and public statements designed to make him look presidential is he going to make before it becomes downright shameless?

"You supply the pictures, I'll supply the partisan witch-hunt."

This snark isn't really meant for you, DW, it's just an indication of my level of annoyance surrounding this whole thing. People are talking about having to regain civility, but they're (mostly) doing it so they can point fingers at the other side. It's...... annoying.

Since a "chamber" is part of a revolver, I'm going to have to ask you to tone down the rhetoric.

Matt -- The truth hurts, I know.

But don't get me wrong - Obama wouldn't be the first and won't be the last - politician who exploited some sort of national tragedy in order to take the focus off the job he's doing or for his own political gain.
