Man, I know the powers that be didn't like him, but that's a hell of a demotion.

Circus - It is my contention that he could have accomplished as much as he has in terms of showing how much we as a country care about this tragedy without all the daily grandstanding on television.

And Dick, you are the one who took a confrontational approach to this - I simply said the guy's motivations are pretty transparent.

Boehner should have canceled his appearance at the fundraiser.

It was a night to mourn the victims. The fundraiser should have been rescheduled.

    Killer doesn't deserve any mention.

And that doesn't perhaps add more encouragement to other unbalanced individuals to commit other heinous actions like this? "Gee, if I commit mass slaughter, the president will mention my name on national TV."

At least it did not reach Tillman status which was a tad too loose.

    No, I think it was.

Tony, I vote Democrat because I largely support Democratic policies.

But I observe politics through a non-partisan, journalistic lens.

If Obama read the Sermon on the Mount and then sat down, a few million people would be pissed off.

Again, it occurs to me that there might not be so much speculation on whether or not Obama is "capitalizing" on this tragedy if the press wasn't polling on it and breathlessly reporting that his numbers are up and comparing the "bounce" to the one Clinton got after OKC and Columbine.

    It's always the horse race.

For the record, I really don't think he is. I don't doubt that there have been discussions that included his political staff on how to respond, but I think he's handled it just about right.

And, the bounce he's received is natural.

Different guy, similar name. (The RNC's spells it Steele, I think.)

I'm not particularly bothered by it. Leaders will always be judged by how they come through at crucial moments. A lot of laudatory ink was spilled on George W. Bush's public response after 9/11, as well, and rightfully so.

It isn't a coincidence, especially since, much like Clinton was able to use OKC bombing to paint the entire spectrum of people to the right of say, Karl Marx, as the government-hating angry white male like Timothy McVeigh - it won't be long until Obama begins to try and spin this into a referendum on the second amendment and angry evil white males.

We've seen this show before and we will be dumb enough to fall for it again.
