I understand that the Speaker doesn't have to be there, but if the House is going to honor a member who's been shot and hold a prayer service, that's where the Speaker should be.

It was appropriate that Obama be in Arizona and it was appropriate that Boehner be in D.C.

So much for the new dialogue. Anybody trying to rip Boehner for this is just desperate to score cheap political points.

If this hadn't been in the news as an attempt to score some political points, few would have thought twice about whether the guy was there or not.

Dude couldn't even go to an employment center without creating a scene.

I don't have an issue with Boehner not being in Arizona and being in Washington to lead the prayer group (although the church/state thing could be disputed). My objection is that he went to a political event afterward. There are other nights he could have done that.

Agreed. It's... disappointing on all sides right now. Sigh.

Is it that disappointing? These people are fighting for their vision of what makes the country a better place for everyone. It's to be expected that they are looking for every edge they can get, as long as no one gets hurt.

Agreed. As are those trying to gain points against Obama for last night's memorial.

There's a time and a place for that. It's not like they're getting a vision of America across to the people right now. Their pointing their fingers at each other and going "neener, neener, neener." It's very disappointing. If you can't rise above the fray when the situation demands it, you probably don't deserve to be in the fray to being with.

Agreed. Obama was excellent last night. The only issue I have is with the crowd that tried to make it more like a rally. But that's not in any way Obama's fault. And I don't think anyone can find fault with Obama last night.
