The shooter is an extremist. A person violently opposed to his country's government.

Hillary calling him an extremist is actually right. He's a domestic terrorist. Just like McVeigh.

The writer called it political extremism, not Hillary. He made that jump.

Hilary Clinton is dead on. The sooner we collectively start realizing that we have the same problems as other parts of the world, the sooner we can start to address those problems and the sooner the extremists will stop targeting the US.

Maybe Rahm wanted him to play fish in his outfield.

Basically we have the left and right pointing fingers and saying "Hah, I told you so!" Stopping the rhetoric means not voting for candidates who use it, and not watching or listening to certain media outlets who perpetuate it.

Even after all of this. the real issue is that an obvious nut case wasn't stopped even though he could have been at multiple points from his parents, community college administrators and his neighbors. Now, grief counselors are sent in for an hour or so, and call it a day, yet another nut case will strike somewhere.

    Not much will change.

The United States is a country and society unique to the world. We won't solve a damn thing by saying, "Hey, let's approach our problems like Sweden." And whether you mean it, your post essentially blames the U.S. for being targeted. Do you really want to live in a country in which this latest whacko felt comfortable?

And with all the threads with Cutler and Family Guy mentioned, that's saying something.

But seriously, to not take stock of our political climate and how polarized we are after an assassination attempt, especially of someone targeted with gun symbolism as part of an organized effort to defeat her, would be short-sighted. That's a whole 'nother issue from whether the doer was conservative, liberal, Martian. We don't know the whole story of him yet. We do know the story of consultant-crafted campaigns, where buzzwords trump substance, and it's a valid strategy to make a campaign so ugly that voters will stay away. It's a sad thing if this is what it took to point out that maybe the rhetoric has gone a tadzillion too far, but there you have it.

Jonathan Alter is hoping that the President can use this tragedy to his political advantage -- and provides advice.

The Pima County Sheriff should get back to work instead of trying to run for higher office because his rhetoric isn't helping.

Pass on the "oh my goodness people have political discussions."

Politics matters. People talk about politics. Do some of them do it in silly ways? Sure. But it's not some sort of "low point." It's not even the low point for the week.
