Seems like the ACL is just a random freak injury. So whether its with only 1:20 left or the start of the first period, the chances were likely similar so Thibs is not at fault.

Michael Wilbon had a terrible piece on ESPN yesterday morning blaming injuries on the lockout.

Why is that a terrible piece, or at least why is it a terrible premise? They stacked games on top of each other as never before. Seems like just about everyone dealt with at least some kind of nagging injury this season.

100,000 people blow out their ACL every year in the US making it a relatively common injury. Unfair to speculate why Rose's knee exploded when it did. Eluite athletes push their bodies to extreme limits and sometimes the body cannot do what the mind wants it to. Remember that the ACL is only an inch and a half long adn less than a half inch wide and is on an island when protecting the knee.

This doesn't make any sense to me.

Did the "game situation" make it any more likely that Rose would injure himself playing the way he always plays?

I mean, he tore his ACL at that exact moment in time. But he was playing the way he ALWAYS plays. Unless that style of play is intrinsically more dangerous, you can't "blame" Rose for the injury.

Unless you are saying that a player playing the way he always plays suddenly became more dangerous because of the score in the game.

It may have been strategically unnecessary, but that has nothing whatsoever to do with shifting the odds for injury. Had the injury not occured, Rose would have played hundreds and hundreds of minutes in these playoffs ---- and thousands and thousands of minutes in his career ---- at the same, breakneck pace.

It was also non-contact. He just planted and blew his knee out.

He's a special player. Insofar as any individual player's artistry, effort or creativity can "elevate" a sport, he was important to the game. It's sad to realize that he will likely be diminished as a player, and that will diminish, however slightly, the game as a whole.

Pure speculation but with regards to Rose, I don't think he was 100 percent physically ready to play in the playoffs. The injury could've happened at any time, IMO.

The report didn't have any factual evidence to say whether injuries were up this year. Knee-jerk speculation.

He mentioned Ginobli and Stoudemire, two guys who have missed plenty of games in non-strike years showed Al Horford getting drilled and landing on his shoulder. How can that injury be caused by the lockout?
