Design thread .... v.2

I like the page.. The centerpiece photo is not the most earth-shattering piece of photography in the last century, but the package is very well done, IMHO. Clean, readable (at least I think, since I can't zoom in on the page too closely). I like the drop cap, border etc... it seems like you incorporated several different elements without overwhelming the audience.

The rest of the page seems a little grey to me, however. the story directly below the CP needs something, be it a pull quote, an info box, mug shot... something to break up the text a bit... It looks like the strip across the top has some kind of info box, but even that maybe could have been shaded or something to break up the appearance of straight grey all the way across (again, since I can't zoom in, there may be some details I'm missing here...)

Overall, I like the page though. I'm pretty much a rookie though, so hopefully some more experienced people on these boards can chime in and agree or disagree with me so you get some feedback...

GD, good work. The only thing I may have done differently on the Husker package was move rail info to the left of the photo, but I wonder if you put the info there so that the photo wasn't bumping up against that 1-column shot. Regardless, nice packages.

I absolutely detest those glance boxes. The white space is too large and distracting.

 

My one critique that jumps out for Doc on the Nebraska centrepiece is the drop H. It makes it look like Husker Hall Call, when I think all call is what you wanted. The H seems confusing to me.

 

Perhaps the good doctor could clarify that headline for us...
I read it as Husker Hall Call, and without being able to zoom in, assumed it was a story about the nebraska hall of fame or something along those lines...
if that's not the case, then i agree with RedCanuck on the drop cap comment.

That's what I thought, too. I thought it was 'Husker Hall Call' about Huskers in the hall, or the Huskers' hall, or something of the sort.

 

There's an overline that explains exactly what the story's about.
