Hey VJ, could you put an enter between your pages please?

  5. Any reason you didn't run the sidebar information on the outside (Hall Call)? That's what I would have done. I don't like all the copy bumping against each other. Would have also thrown out the gray box and used bullets. My .02 cents.

I also see you've grown fond of colored boxes, especially in your second package. Personally, I can't stand them. Would love to see more white space.

Oh, and it's damn hard to read white type on black background. I'd say it's OK some of the time.

  6. Love this package (the bat one). Little confused about what you got going on up top. Is that the first few paragraphs of the story blown up? Pulled quote in bottom story appears (from here) to be a little long.

  7. The colored boxes must be the new "In" thing. Is it to get away from cutout ad nauseum? Maybe I'm old school but I always liked a cutout and white space ... then again, I'd rather see people try new shit instead of seeing the same old shit.

  8. Nice pages, VJ. Didn't see anything off-hand that I didn't like. Posting all at the same time is a bit overwhelming, though. Especially when I'm in drive-by critique mode.

The top is just the first graf of the story blown up, like what some magazines do. As for the pull quote, it may be a bit long. But if I remember right (it's been a while since I did that page) it was an informative quote that (I think) tied into the headline.

    VJ-

I like the leaderboard header. The pages seem clean and easy to navigate. Good example of keeping it simple (from what I can see -- I wish these could be enlarged). Seems like many designers (myself included, all too often) try to gussy things up more than they need, cluttering pages. Seems like you avoided that, when the possibility of doing it was there.

I present this to the group for review. I have no idea if it's decent or sucks moose balls.

My original plan was to have a poster-sized shot of the Redskins' turf practice field; but that fell through when we couldn't get the photo in time. So I tried to build on a theme: How shitty training camp is - a necessary evil - made more miserable by the fact that they so greatly underachieved last year.

In case you can't see, the info boxes at the top are just practice schedules and pertinent info for fans who want to go. Lastly, it doesn't show, but there's a rule along the very bottom of the page; for some reason, only a portion of it is visible.

It feels like there's too much white space, but I think it helps focus the eye. Or maybe I'm just rationalizing, I don't know.

I think it's good. Simple, yet effective, design.
