Thing is, the kid's from this area, and plays in Utah. and we're a paper in W.Va., and the only two shots we got, main art from the Daily Herald in Utah, and the other, the cutout from the minor league ball club, so that was all the art we had to work with... and I just literally started last Monday, and it's a weekly that publishes on a Wednesday, so that's the art I had...

and the mugs, yeah, i know about the placement, but i didn't want to stack them vertically, and i didn't want to place the two mugs beside the cutout on the side, and the cutout underneath... so i felt the two mugs between the head and copy, was a better fit, overall..

doc, nobody is busting your hump here. it's all good, dog.

  3. Yeah dude, I'm not trying to bust on you. The allowable photo size on here has gotten so small that I couldn't read the centerpiece story. I just assumed it was a local kid and figured you had better (or at least different) art than that. No worries.

Trust me, I've done much, much worse than that. Just figured you wanted some constructive criticism from more eyes.

Our prep football preview. I know it's been done, but not around here. I like how it turned out.

Rusty, I like the green border (I presume that's supposed to be there!), it makes it a little more believable.

My first thought was that you'd call him an RB when he wears 78 (good number, BTW) and isn't pretty like a lot of other RBs. But, after blowing it up, I see that's not the case; and I doubt it would be for anyone who actually looks at the cover. So don't mind me.

This area is known as the River Bend -- hence the RB. That guy's actually an O-lineman. I don't know why the photographer gave him a football -- he probably won't touch one all season. But the guy is the best prospect in the area on the best team in the area, so he was a good choice for a cover boy.

And the green is supposed to make it look more like an X-Box cover -- it's there on purpose.

I figured that was the case (pun intended) re: XBox, but computers are funny sometimes...

I am not a huge fan of so much white space. You have a good inch or more on both sides of the CP, then more under all three mugshots.

the white space doesn't bother me a bit.

there are actual rules there too, but for some reason they're missing...
