    I second that.

Chris is a good guy, and one hell of a "teacher".

He's also a big fan of dairy products. ;)

Thanks folks, much much appreciated. This has been a really great thread. And no, I'm not just saying that because you're saying nice things about our pages.*

*-ok, well, maybe a little ;)

I love the build on the bottom half of the page.

But somehow, that 6-col art doesn't strike me as worthy. I mean, yeah, it's a sellout. You said that in the head. What else is that to denote?

But again, the copy part of that page is one hell of a nice package.

Ah, Oklahoma City. Now there's a city trying to prove we belong in the big leagues.

    We don't.

I agree that the six-column art was a fairly nothing shot. I don't know why the front didn't have a close-up crowd shot as part of it, if you're trying to get across the magic of a night; show it in microcosm. My feeling for 9/11 heds for a damn game are well known, but putting that aside, the content of the top heds was a yawner, and the bottom hed content was not much better. The "by the numbers" thing was a nice touch, but would have worked better with art incorporated with it. I like the rail impulse on the left, but tabular matter like that one bit of it seems jarring on a front.

A very, very general rule of thumb, I'm sure there are exceptions to it.

But huge dominant art probably shouldn't have 3,000 people in it.

I thought something different should have been done with the "by the numbers".

Look at the last one - it's only one line long. That hardly warrants a three-line dropcap. I think maybe if the put the numbers over two or three legs, it would have worked better for me.

I don't mind the photo. To me, it told the story of the first evening - big-time basketball opens in Oklahoma City. There's going to be plenty of time for "armpit" basketball shots, so why not take the opportunity to do something a little different? Though, if I had been photo editing, I would have looked for something a little more cropped in on the tipoff.

I like the preview cap for the next game as well as the starting lineup part. It helps disguise the index in a way so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

The page has great bones, just needs a little finesse.

Agreed. With dominant art, I want something emotional, something stronger than that. Yeah, that moment doesn't happen all of the time in OKC, but the photo simply doesn't do much to capture the moment.

I liked the rail down the left and how they did the bottom of the page. I did like the Hornets logo to the left and the NBA logo to the right up top, and the score above the headline. Just the photo sticks out as a sore spot.

It seemed a little odd that in a section labeled "Opening Night" there was a need to add "Game 1" before the score label.

In April when the section is labeled "Sports" will the score label say "Game 79: Hornets 87, Bucks 82"?

I don't mind the main photo either. Like you said, the story of the evening was big-time basketball opening in Oklahoma City. It's something different.

I would have liked a secondary shot of a fan closeup though.
