I think those sky boxes can take away from the centerpiece some, only because they are so distracting.

And carrie's right, the reverse score boxes are bad. And this one is too wide as well.

    Exactly.

I think they MIGHT work in 13P+ columns, but look at the type on the right. I mean MAYBE two words fit there. Just hard to read. I don't even want to think about the breaks ... plus, it looks bad that the body type above and below is justified while the type next to the rev box is ragged right.

Honestly I can't see why that ragged right copy should be there. It's a score box, put the score for the two teams and be done with it. Any other details, either make into a facts box or put in the story.

Or slap the refers at the bottom of the story start.

But that body copy to the right of the rev box ... ick. Not good.

I like this CP, though like with every CP, there are little things to comment on:

The use of spot color on type can be useful but in this case, the teal/blue isn't carried throughout the CP and it looks odd just for his name to be in color.

And I love the graphics/infoboxes along the bottom, however, there's nothing that transitions my eye to those boxes. It's almost as if those boxes are separate from the CP.

    But, concept is cool.

Talk about turning your back to readership. (check out column mug) :D

Pretty bleak overall. Those bottom "cutouts" do not work. At all. The top one might have ... if it had gone down into the rule. But you do NOT let his cut-off legs fade into white space.

That championship facts box kinda seems out of place floating next to his head.

Also, I think that one-column, left-hand column is on the Lafayette coach, which would mean it goes with the bottom two stories. Now, if the Lafayette coach is talking about the Liberty high school game, OK. But...

Looking at it again, I think the "Almost Perfect" headline is a little too light.

It also makes no sense. If both teams have losses, how are they almost perfect?

I've not ever seen cutouts like those on the bottom in my life...agree with Shotty, it just doesn't work.

What paper is this from? Easton?
