Just astonishing that this fucknut won't resign, which anyone who gave half a shit about his city would do at this point.

No American city needs a hero right now more than Detroit. Instead it has the worst thing that could happen to it.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Thomas Jackson just ruled that a lower court judge did not abuse his discretion in sending Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick to jail, meaning the mayor will remain behind bars.

Jackson's decision came moments after prosecutors arguing to keep Kilpatrick behind bars for violating his bond just told Jackson that Kilpatrick brazenly ignored restrictions on his travel, despite being given great leeway and prior warnings not to leave town without calling the court.

Yes... and no. He had a camera and was doing a stand-up here.

From the above link: He said he didn't want special treatment for the mayor, but felt there were mitigating circumstances involved in the mayor's violation of bond terms that required him to notify the court before leaving town.

Really? Me thinks not, because I'm pretty sure a trip to a water park in Ontario isn't a mitigating factor:

Wonder if they'll haul him back into court this week?

The Free Press, by far the more liberal of the two Detroit papers, calls for Kilpatrick's immediate removal by Gov. Jennifer Granholm.

    http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080807/OPINION01/80807106/1069

Granholm has scheduled hearings (guaranteed to be turned into a race-carding festival and general alibi-palooza by Kwame's legal beagles) for Sept. 3.

The relevant statute does not specify that hearings must be held, only that the governor herself be convinced that the mayor has engaged in "improper" and "disreputable" conduct. The mind reels if Kwame's conduct so far does not meet that standard.
