I thought his wife moved to Florida with the kids and was taking classes down there. And I definitely was under the impression that they have been separated for a long time.

Maybe not separated, but the kiddies had a long summer vacation.
And I have yet to see a photo of her today where she isn't looking like she'd rather be anywhere else with someone other than him.

In fact, both the prosecution and defense had just agreed in court they would not request a change in bond terms that required the mayor to wear a tether and forbade him from traveling beyond Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.
Then, Wayne County Circuit Judge Leonard Townsend said: "I believe that the mayor is a delegate at the Democratic Convention. ..."
Kilpatrick attorney James Thomas seized the opportunity and told Townsend he was "prescient in raising the issue."
Wayne County Assistant Prosecutor Lisa Lindsey responded: "We're going to strenuously object. ..."
But Townsend cut her off.
"Well, it doesn't make any difference how strenuously you object. I don't think that this gentleman has any intention of not coming to court. The only place that I think of that he can go and not be back to court is probably Callisto or Ganymede, which are really satellites orbiting the planet of Saturn," he said, referring to what are actually moons of Jupiter.
Lindsey, her voice rising, said prosecutors and the mayor's lawyers had privately agreed not to request bond changes Thursday, an assertion Thomas later called "hogwash."
Townsend was not only unmoved, he ruled -- without being asked by Kilpatrick's lawyers -- that the mayor could remove the tether he has worn since admitting he violated his bond terms by making an unauthorized business trip to Windsor in July.
"I also don't think that the people of the city of Detroit and the state of Michigan should be represented by a person wearing prison clothes or wearing a tether," the judge said. "I see absolutely no reason for that. In fact, it's silly."

MAYBE HE OUGHT NOT TO COMMIT CRIMES, THEN HE WOULDN'T HAVE THIS PROBLEM, YA THINK?!!?!?

Lindsey, clearly exercised by this point, accused the judge of extending the mayor special treatment.
"We don't say, 'Oh, you violated your bond, but you know what? You're an important person. You have an important job and because you are an important person you have impunity to violate the law and just go anywhere and do anything,' " she argued.

Another judge reverses the ruling:

Prosecutors left the courtroom without comment. They filed an appeal with the Michigan Court of Appeals late Thursday afternoon, asking the court to reinstate the stricter bond conditions set by Wayne County Circuit Judge Thomas Jackson last Friday.

Jackson is the judge who allowed Kilpatrick to leave jail Friday -- where he had been sent one day earlier for violating his bond. Jackson also ordered the mayor to wear a tether and stay within the tri-county area.

Jackson was clearly irritated by Townsend's new order Thursday morning, saying Townsend had overstepped court protocol.

"It's highly unusual for a judge on the same bench to change a bond ... on his own, particularly when the terms were not egregious," he said.

But by 1 p.m. -- about three hours after Kilpatrick's tether was removed -- 36th District Judge Ronald Giles ordered it put back on.

Giles is presiding over a felony case in which the mayor is charged with two counts of assault. He is accused of shoving a sheriff's detective trying to serve a subpoena.

Giles put into writing his earlier order in the assault case to limit Kilpatrick's travel to Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties. His order did not grant Kilpatrick an exception to attend the convention.

Of course the Feds, not to be outdone, are trying to tie in kickbacks, McThug and McThug's dad (who learned at the feet of the biggest municipal crook in Michigan history -- and yes star, I am taking Coleman Young and Orville Hubbard into account).

Kwame McThug's apparent legal strategy is to try to stall things out on the local level, but I suspect one of the messages carried from Mt. Obama to the Kwame Bunker will be something on the order of "go away quickly and quietly, or come Jan. 21, you'll find the Justice Department up your ass like a million psychotic killer bees."

Which, of course, doesn't rule out the CURRENT edition of the DOJ chasing Kwame around the fire hydrant for a while, either.

Prosecutor offers to drop one assault count if mayor resigns

Prosecutor Doug Baker just proposed a deal for Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick that if the mayor resigns by Sept. 3, prosecutors will dismiss one count of assault.

Juan Mateo, one of Kilpatrick's new attorneys, said he was just hearing the deal and was in no position to respond.

Wayne County Circuit Judge David Groner told all parties to be in court at 2 p.m. Monday to discuss bond terms. He started the proceedings by entering a not guilty plea for Kilpatrick, who stood mute.

Court has just been adjourned.

Kilpatrick was in court this morning with three new lawyers on his legal team.
