DEAL? Why would they offer him a deal?
The only thing they should offer is 10 minutes to clean out his desk.

I suspect it's a real good bet word will come down from Mt. Obama over the weekend that the Kwaminator is not to leave the state next week.

The last thing Barack wants is that thug waltzing around the convention in front of all the TV cameras.

Can he legally leave the state at this point?

To be determined. There is a court date on Monday where the judge will rule on that.

And the only reason they offered the deal is to get him out of office immediately. McThug said no way and the prosecutors said we have plenty of evidence.

Correct me if I'm wrong as well, but can't Detroit City Council have him removed ASAP as well?

No, a Kwame-stooge judge ruled last week that they can't, despite an explicit provision in the city charter saying that they can. That ruling will almost certainly get chucked out the second it gets appealed to a judge who isn't camped out in Kwame's underwear, but there isn't time for a lengthy appeals process to play itself out.

More imminently, the governor's removal hearing is set for Sept. 3, and if he's still in office by that time, my guess is that the then-offficial (rather than 'presumptive') nominee Obama will dangle a juicy carrot (a promise of an ambassadorship, high sub-Cabinet post, etc etc) in front of the term-limited Granholm, who will need a job in 2010, to induce her to deep-six McThug.

The wording on the reasons he can be removed were vague. It pissed everyone off, but the council charter was poorly worded.

Of course it was, but the charter also unmistakably states that the mayor can indeed be removed by the council, and only an utter stooge or dupe of the thug could possibly maintain otherwise.

It would take an actual removal of a mayor by the council, and a subsequent appeal of the basis for the removal, to determine if the grounds for removal would pass legal muster. To preemptively short-circuit the process is simple capitulation to Kilpatrick's thug regime.

Even if he's tossed, a felony conviction along the line also needs to stick to ensure he doesn't run again down the line, you know when he finds God.

At the rate some pundits and pols are advocating felons' voting rights, he can probably be convicted and still find a way to be elected at some point in the future.
