No, I was thinking of the manufacturers specifically...

Sort of, but not intentionally in a protest way... See what happens in Detroit when the Auto Dealers, places like ABC Warehouse and Meijer say, nope. I'll advertise in the ring papers like the O&E (I know it's Gannett), Advance, and Oakland/Macomb

The Detroits might be the first big-city pubs to do this, but they won't be the last. I wouldn't be surprised to see many others follow suit ... and quickly. Desperate times, desperate measures.

Not for nothing but detroit could make it work.
    Here's how
Subscribers still get a paper everyday.
Three days are paid while four are a free throw total market penetration paper.
Target the free paper in the right spots and you have something appealing.

Here's what I heard today on the tv.

Freep will publish every day, but only deliver two days a week. They save money on delivery costs on those 5 days. Benefits include not losing money during days there aren't advertisements.

However, they are going to lose money since people would only be getting 2 papers a week. Sure they would pay more at the stand the other days, but who says people are going to buy the paper and go out of there way? It would be easier for the subscribers to get the News, the Oakland Press or the Macomb Daily.

I just don't understand why you would let subscribers think they can get by without the paper.

Buh, buh, my daughter swims on Tuesdays! You mean I won't have a photo and "column" on Wednesday? How will Detroit know that she tries just as hard as everyone else?

    (trying to add some levity)

People who live in Wayne County aren't going to want the Oakland Press or Macomb Daily because they have less Wayne County stories.

And don't think Oakland or Macomb would add that to their paper. Both are JRC owned.

    A. The News, from all accounts, is going to be right in step with the Freep in terms of cutting back home delivery to just a couple days a week.
    B. You can count the subscribers on a finger-less hand who are going to replace the Freep or News with the Macomb Daily or Oakland Press. The content provided -- from news to sports to the friggin' crossword -- isn't even close.

This is just depressing... I grew up with these two papers and to watch these soulless money grubbing bastards rape the product is just discouraging...
