I remember when editors threatened reporters saying if you want to keep your job you HAVE to be on social media. Though it is nice reporters have an outlet to let people know instead of just not having their byline appear for a few weeks.
New newspaper bromide: "Comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable - unless they are your employees, then do the opposite."

Now you need to be on social media so that people know when you're laid off and can stop texting you scores (and complaints).

I'm guessing those numbers include copy editors? And if you're total number of journos to cover the East and South Bay is hovering around 100, I don't even know where you start. That's three counties, two large cities, two more "mini-metros," six major league franchises, two Pac-12 colleges, a major port - more than a few big utilities, dozens of school districts.

It's March, so LANG is facing another round of cuts, maybe this week.

Probably worth its own thread. That's 30 percent of what's left of the Denver Post newsroom. Which is at 90. I'll say this, at least Scripps just took the bazooka to the Rocky and just killed it off. The gradual drips and drabs of paper cuts over the years would seem much worse than what we went through nine years ago.
