Dick "Hoops" Weiss among layoff victims at New York Daily News

My interesting Dick Weiss story. I learned after that it was the rule and not the exception, but put the man in perspective for me.

I was at a Final Four. Of course I had read him and knew of him, but not what he looked like. He came and asked if he could sit next to me in the giant media room. I said sure. He mentions to be a feature I had written. He knew all of the details (I had forgotten some as the story was a year and a half old) and started talking with me in detail.

When finished he introduced himself to me. I of course was stunned, but said my name and he tells me, "Of course I know who you are, you wrote that great piece." Has always spoke to me since.

What a very kind man.
