I think that Rutgers' response has been extremely muted and level-headed. Since everyone else is hounding them for their opinions, disrupting their lives, and since the original insult was directed at them, it hardly seems unreasonable for the team to offer its own response.

My God!!! We had two threads on this and moddy was good enough to merge them so there only would be one. Whey the hell do we need another thread? :(

EDITED: Thank you! A good moderator beats a bad d_b. :)

Obviously, I don't believe in what C. Vivian Stringer does word for word.

And if you're going to bring up music videos, there's a big difference between Rutgers and those video hos. The Rutgers women wanted nothing to do with this; the video hos actually audition for the role and get paid.

And PHINJ, I agree completely. Rutgers didn't simply spout into microphones. They took their time and thought about what they really wanted to say. They went about this the right way.

ESPN doesn't give a damn about that. They are going to milk the hell out of this the same way CNN did last night when Screamin' A did his high-level voice pitch on it.

Boots, Stringer is a class act. I've seen her when she was at Iowa.

As far as I'm concerned with Jesse and Al is this: I don't care much for them because they no longer factor in the fabric of Black America (this is coming from a brother). Any time race is inflicted, the both of them become the ambulance chasers that they are.

I would be surprised if the majority of black Americans could care less about what Imus says because they don't listen to him or watch him. That's the reality of it. With that said, I watch Imus from time to time and some of the insane schtick they do is amusing and I catch myself going "maybe I shouldn't be laughing at that," especially if it's Bernard McGuirk pulling off his antics. Imus has popped off on everyone (Iraqis, Mexicans, Whites, Republicans, Democrats), I do ask myself "is this any different than what he has done in the past?" The answer is no.

There is an underlying question that's running through my head now: are African-Americans still that sensitive when someone outside of our race says something? Is it any different than when Whitlock or Chris Rock says something that some blacks don't want to hear but laugh at it anyway?

    Without a doubt, yes.

Maybe that's why I'm a small number of African-Americans who agree with Rock and Whitlock when it comes to people like Jackson and Sharpton. They don't matter to us anymore. They have become a shell of themselves, and are the ultimate hypocrites when it comes to admonishing others and not checking themselves.

I agree with Mizzou. Rutgers is tired of this shit, all of us are tired of it, but there are those who can't let it go so that they can get their 30 seconds in. He's suspended for two weeks. By the time he comes back from New Mexico, 75% of the nation will be talking about something else.

But we're talking about public airwaves, which means you can only take free speech so far. This isn't satellite radio.

But it is also cable TV, MSNBC, which isn't public airwaves either.

No, abbott, it originiates from WFAN radio which is public airwaves.

Imus circled the wagons. He had no choice. He's going to survive. The only way he won't is if his advertising dips.

D_B, the cardinal in question was the late John Cardinal O'Connor of NYC. Ondeadline, someone didn't know that this original thread was out here first, so don't worry about it. Everything is going to stay on this thread.

Sorry, but I have spit this out as well: I'm not a rap fan, but I appreciate those who do rap. But, I have little tolerance on how the majority of rappers today continue with this "big baller, shot caller, ho's, bitches," and all of this stupid shit that's on the air now. I turn it to another station, just like what most of should be doing with Imus and Stern.

Stern doesn't impress me at all, regardless if Robin is his sidekick. He brings out the freak shows, tramps, and sophomoric stunts as well. He isn't above everyone else and to be on satellite radio gives him free reign that he couldn't get on regular radio.

Of course he's going to survive. The sponsors are going to stick with him.
