Why don't you call that person a "nappy-headed ho?"

Boots: Shut the fuck up already. This isn't about you.

Nor is it about Al Sharpton, or Jesse Jackson, neither of whom play for Rutgers. They play for air time, just like Imus.

It's about networks who pay millions for the right to broadcast college athletics, but allow their airwaves to be used to call college athletes 'nappy headed ho's.' It's about a complete creep like Imus claiming to be a 'good person' who said 'a bad thing.' No, he's a bad person who said a bad thing. Good people don't find entertainment value in demoralizing 18 and 19 year old girls who did nothing but play for a championship.

Did you watch the press conference? Heartbreaking. While Sharpton and the rest of the media are belching up gas over the social value of Don Imus, these young women are 'celebrating' their impossible and unexpected season by explaining they're not ho's....they're honor students and classy women with families and goals and one very spoiled memory. How many chances in a lifetime do you get to celebrate being the best? Who the fuck is Don IgnorImus to shit on them?

Where do we draw the line? Do we ever? We had a whole debate here over Billy Packer and 'intent'....if you say something stupid without meaning harm. I can understand cutting some slack for sheer stupidity, or misunderstanding. But there's no misunderstanding about what Imus said, or what he meant, and he should be gone.

Edit--ps, good job by Jemele. Instead of using gangsta rap to excuse Imus, how about using Imus to exorcise gangsta rap...

21, Rutgers lost to Tennessee in the title game. Otherwise, good post.

I'd like to applaud 21 and Jemele Hill for their opinions.

Pretty much 99 percent of the other comments posted in this thread have been completely moronic, irrelevant and ignorant. But then again nothing so predictably brings out the stupid in people like discussions of race, "free speech" and gender issues.

I must admit that Imus seemed even more like a creep when he started talking about all of the good he does, like one thing has anything to do with the other...

Helping kids with cancer does not give you a free pass to say whatever you want...

That said, I still don't think this deserves the attention that it's getting...

I know that---you know what I mean. They shouldn't have gotten that far in the first place....it was a championship to them. Should have written it better, where is a good editor when I need one!

Missou, I think I answered that. It's New York media at its frenzied best.

I'll blame ESPN before I blame the NYC media...

Missou, ESPN is part of the NYC media.

Yes, it's really outrageous that a story about one of the most powerful, influential voices in the national media using incredibly offensive and racist/sexist comments about an overachieving team of mostly minorities should get more attention than, say, Yankees Game 6 out of 162.
