Did Imus talk about the Rutgers women's team?

    I think YAB's argument has a lot to do with the fact that Jemele's a black woman. His racism is rearing its ugly head again.

    Rodney King said it best
    "Can't we all just get along?"

    The rap music references are addressing whether this is true, heartfelt outrage that would be backed by consistent societal behaviors over time or whether this is what I might refer to as opportunistic outrage. And to me, this smacks of the latter.

    There are hundreds of equally offensive comments made every day on the radio airwaves; somebody just decided it was time for Don Imus to play the whipping boy.

    Sticks and stones....

    Now that's how you use the sarcasm font without making it blue, folks. That's how it's done.

    Wasn't that Reginald Denny?

    I thought Rodney King said, "Ow ow ow ow ow!"

    EDIT: Actually, the can't we get along is Rodney King. :)

    Yabb's racism never lowers its ugly head.

    [size=13pt]What's the big deal?

    He said the Tennessee women were cute.

    Which, of course, they are.

    Sorry, the orange font just seemed more appropriate.

    For me, the Imus = Gangsta Crap analogy falls apart here:

    I can hear the words of those psycho/porno/criminally-insane rap songs and think, 'Like I care what a psycho porno criminally insane rapper says.' That's all they have...the whole act. Without the obscenity, they don't exist. I don't expect anything; it's too stupid to offend me.

    But I hear Imus, who hosts presidential candidates and brags about contributing to charities and the underprivileged, and I think, 'That's the best you can do? You don't know better? You want to shape political opinions and world views, and you can't see your way past 'nappy headed hos'? Who the fuck are you?' And it does offend me, that someone who can and should know better would get down to the level of gangsta crappers.

    I know you can shoot a billion holes in that--and in no way does it address the sheer hypocrisy of the broadcasting empires who put all of this shit on the airwaves--but it does reconcile (in my mind) the reason we're not really talking about rap music here.
