Best I can tell, we've gotten all worked up over a hypothetical party, and an imagined menu.

Not sure if 93Dunce has ever been invited to any party, let alone a vegetarian one.

He hangs out at the Linebacker Inn during football season. Get a flight to South Bend and go commiserate with him.

Star chef Marcus Samuelsson tweeted this delicious summer recipe a little while ago:

    Raw Zucchini Summer Salad Recipe

    Servings: 3-4
    Calories: 85 per serving
    Prep Time: 15 minutes
    Cook Time: 5 minutes
    Total Time: 20 minutes

    Ingredients

    2 pounds medium zucchini
    1/3 cup extra-virgin olive oil
    1 garlic clove minced
1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
    1 teaspoon coarse salt
    1/2 teaspoon cracked black pepper
    1/4 cup pistachios
1/2 cup coarsely chopped mint (or basil, if you prefer a stronger herb flavor)
    1 large hunk parmesan cheese

    Directions

    1. Using a mandolin or vegetable peeler and working your way from the top to bottom of each zucchini, slice the zucchini into thin, even ribbons. Place the ribbons into a large bowl

    2. In a small bowl, combine the olive oil, lemon juice, salt, pepper, red pepper flakes and minced garlic. Whisk all the ingredients together until a thin, vinaigrette forms. Set aside

    3. Add the coarsely chopped mint and pistachios to the small bowl with the zucchini ribbons and stir to combine. Lightly toss the vinaigrette over the zucchini mixture, being sure to thoroughly coat all the ribbons without overdressing the salad as a whole. Season to taste with salt and pepper

    4. Using the same vegetable peeler or mandolin, shave thin strips of parmesan cheese over the salad and enjoy

Dick, can you summarize the way the conversation went between Mike and Mike.

They were doing some routine where people were tweeting what would be a deal breaker for dating a woman. One was if she was a vegan. And Golic vented about going to vegan events with no meat served and how discourteous it was.

This thread has been quite a moveable feast, even without any meat. Thanks to all.

My take on the original question: People who have just become vegetarians or vegans tend to be a bit preachier about it ... just like someone who abruptly "finds religion" and is suddenly more Catholic than the pope.

I'd ask Golic how that's discourteous. What, a person can't go without meat for one meal or event?

What if the event is Thanksgiving or Easter?

You might be trying too hard with that question, 93.

Not at all. We've have a nationwide epidemic in recent years of people being invited to Thanksgiving dinner expecting to eat turkey, only to be duped into a vegetarian meal.

In extreme cases. ... they serve TOFU!!!!!! Tofu!!!!!!!! TOFUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not even enough courtesy to find middle ground and serve shrimp or salmon.

So, to recap: No matter who throws the party, only the vegans may complain?

The politics of food are becoming almost as difficult as the politics of sex.

Also, some of us carnivores are appalled at the savage murder of defenseless plants. :)
