a sports journalists' message board where sports journalists have written conversations about sports journalists? yes, hard to believe, isn't it?

As many on here have mentioned, I always found that it was better to call a coach by their name instead of Coach because it brings you onto equal footing during interviews. And when I had one-on-ones with so-called big-name coaches, it seemed to garner more respect. If I was in a presser, I wouldn't use anything if I didn't know them, I'd just ask the question without any preface. That's what worked for me.

I had an track coach I covered enough to be recognized that called me "Coach". I laughed and said, "I'm not a coach" and he said "Everyone's 'coach' to me."

In all the years of doing baseball, I've never called a manager "skip" for one simple reason - I'm not a player and will not pretend to be.

Calling a coach "Coach" = Bad
Calling a manager "Skip" = You should be shot.
