And sometimes you don't know how the light will react in the image until you take the picture.

We have a pair of Nikkon 300 mm 2.8 lenses at work; both are probably 10 years old. One works, the other doesnt. Estimate to fix the broken one was like $700, which the company won't pay.
They were going to sell it, so I said I'd like to buy it. Publisher said $200.
I have to buy it, right? Even if I get it fixed, I'm only into it for a little under a grand; I'm never going to buy one of these (new they're around 5k) so the price sort of makes sense, right?

Damn, go for it. And let me know if you don't.

I know it's not exactly a "please critique the shit out of me" photo, but: that pole coming out of her head/shoulder is a distraction. For a personal photo, I'd clone it out. I've always heard that rule and try to keep it in mind, but I swear, when I'm shooting something candid, it feels like 75 percent of the time I end up with a field goal pole or telephone pole or flag pole coming out of someone's head. Drives me crazy.

It's great for facebook and the phone, but since I took it with an iphone, i'm not going to print it.

But that is a good catch.

I got excited about this post headline when I first saw it, but then opened it and realized it wasn't about editors.

Remind me, Rhody: do you use your own equipment or the paper's? Either way it sounds like a good deal, assuming you find someone who can indeed repair it for around $700.
EDIT: Just saw your new post in the other thread, Rhody. Sorry about that. I guess my question is moot now.

I haven't read where this is on the other thread, but hell, buy it, get it fixed, sell it and pocket the difference.

Yeah, so the lens is probably a no go now.
I asked my former co-worker to see if theyll sell it to him. I'd give him the cash.
