Those people who bought Ryan Braun jerseys to give as gifts this Christmas must be beside themselves with frustration. His alleged steroid abuse gives another black eye to a medication that can be life changing when used in the appropriate patient. More this week on the web.

Colt McCoy’s concussion was missed by trainers and doctors on the sideline. The NFL’s response is to put specialists on the sideline and this is perhaps just the wrong response.

The NBA season is gearing up for a Christmas opening but the Grinch came early for Jeff Green. The erstwhile Celtic failed his preseason physical exam and was found to have an aortic aneurysm. His career and life are both on hold pending surgery. More about this condition this week on the blog.

Orthokine injections, Alex Rodriguez and the horse science behind his treatment. If it's good enough for Secretariat, should it be good enough for ARod?

A little late this week...even the doc can get sick.

Matt Flynn and Aaron Rodgers are not interchangeable but like in football, a good system makes medical care better

This week's diatribe talks about the 1965 Surgeon General's report about the risks of smoking. Why care about a government press release that is half a century old? More this week at http://mddirect.org/blog/index.php?/archives/260-smoking-kills.html

    It's not always about sports.
