This week's column is a lesson from Kevin Huber. The Cincinnati's punter teaches us about broken jaws and broken necks

When is it safe to return to play from injury? This week's column about #concussion, #collarbone and healing . What we learned this year about how the body heals.

The first column of the year talks about concussion in athletes, courtesy of new research published in the Journal of Pediatrics. Brain rest is a concept that docs have been pushing for years, but it's nice to have science to back up what we suggest. Now if we can only get coaches, players and parents to listen

IGF-1 gets no respect as a performance enhancing drug, but it's one of the three PEDs that were in A-Rod's arsenal. This week's column talks about the Rodney Dangerfield of PEDs

This week's column talks about ACL rehab.

Lindsey Vonn misses the Olympics, Chris Harris misses the Super Bowl both with a torn ACL. Sarah Hendrickson beast the odds and makes the US ski jumping team just 5 months after surgery.

Statistics and probability were less than helpful in predicting the Super Bowl outcome, but they are skills much needed in picking the right antibiotic to treat infections.

The Olympics have begun but this week's column comes from the NHL. Penguin Kris Letang suffers a stroke but the news is overshadowed by the opening ceremonies. Strokes aren't supposed to happen to young people...

The Olympics were less complicated when I worked my first Games. aside from the politics and security, the sports themselves seem safer and less extreme. But with a generation of spectators raised with a video game culture, the Olympic ideal of "faster, higher, stronger" may have tipped the balance away from safety.

The Sochi Games have come to an end and for many athletes whose sports are not quite ready for prime time, there is a four year wait to be in the world's spotlight. There were six dark medalists this year, who failed the WADA list. Some athletes inadvertently used prohibited drugs while others balanced risk and reward.
This week's column about that risk:

Nasal fractures are usually no big deal. Going to the doc may be less than satisfying when he's more interested in the complications than the fracture itself. Learning about broken noses from LeBton James in this week's column

Even Tiger can't rush Mother Nature when it comes to a back injury. Week two's injury seemed inevitable after week one. This week's DocTalk column
