Does anyone still think Manning is better than Brady?

Why would Shanahan in Denver care if Belichick's team scored against Joe Gibbs?

    Yeah.

Wow, I'm impressed that stats such as these actually exist.
Not so impressed that you couldn't quote them without an insult.
This is why I -- and many others -- hardly get on this site anymore. You can't express any thought without being attacked.
And I stand by my opinion that Manning is a self-centered ass.

If you don't like Manning, that's fine, but almost everybody who has dealt with him, or met him, seems to think he's a pretty good guy.

You're entitled to your opinion, but I think it's safe to say you're in the clear minority on that one.

    I
He's not the only one tossing insults on this thread. But, considering the subject, that's not surprising.

I remember a column about some stupid gripe Belichick had - can't recall exactly what it was - and as I remember it it was more a perceived slight than anything. Belichick was in full FU mode, so he scorched the earth. It explains why he did it, but isn't really a defense of it.

Never been on a police blotter.

Never boasted loudly about how great he is or how disrespected he is (see Baldwin, Doug).

Never boasted publicly about how bad or overmatched some opponent was (see Sherman, Richard).

Waited over an hour after crushing defeat to Ravens to meet with Ray Lewis and congratulate him in the locker room, since they would never meet on the field again.

Been married to his pre-college sweetheart for almost 14 years. Has two kids by one woman. Charitable endeavors are off the charts.

For all the "disappointments" and unrealized "potential" . . . none of it was because he didn't work hard enough.

And so on. And so on.

On a scale of 0 (Rae Carruth, Aaron Hernandez) to 10 of what one would hope someone would be as a player/person, Manning would fall somewhere around 9.99643. Thus, your "opinion" of him is as far off base as your imaginary recollection of all his short TD passes.

Yeah, as much as I like to tweak the Manningites, there's no evidence he's not one of the more likable athletes in any sport.

Right. It's not to say the guy is perfect, but of the HOF level QBs I met when I covered the NFL, Manning was probably the most likeable and didn't take himself as seriously as so many of the others. You would have a very hard time finding, maybe anyone who has covered Manning or met Manning who thinks he's anything close to a "self-centered ass"

Most of the others have at least a few instances that people could point to or selectively choose as evidence that a player might be like that, but I sure as hell can't think of one for Manning.

I think there is something to Manning's intense approach and how that can rub some people he plays with the wrong way, but that's not the kind of thing he should apologize for.

I remember vividly in Msnning's second or third season him b.s.-ing with us on a non-speaking day. He was laughing his assoff talking about those dumb "should have stayed at a Holiday Inn" commercials. So I guess he really does like funny commercials.

They also told the story at my local back then about how, as a rookie in his first day in camp after signing his mega-deal, he came in with a couple teammates and ordered a Miller Lite. The bartender, not recognizing him, apparently sweetly said, "You, know, you can get the 22-ouncer for just a dollar more!" Thus sending his fellow Colts into hysterics.
