Does your shop force you to take breaks?

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by schiezainc, Jun 28, 2011.

  1. What you came up with isn't a solution. I'd still be going 8 1/2 hours when I could get the job done in eight. The only difference is shifting the time that I'm spending at the office. But I'd still be there a half-hour that I didn't have to be there for.

Again, if I've got enough work that I need to be here for more than 40 hours in a week, that's part of the job and I'm fine with it. But why should I stay at the office doing absolutely nothing for a half-hour, when I could just go for eight hours straight, get the job done and then spend that half-hour away from the office?

And people wonder why I'm so vehemently pro-business.

Your solution requires logic. Sadly, this industry doesn't have a lot of that.

Then spend 3:30 - 4 doing work outside the office.

Finding hypocrisy on this site is too easy. Rules are rules, except when we don't like them.

"Rules are rules" is a phrase my friends and I use often, and no one here has used it the way I mean so I'll stop..
You have to work eight hours, so you work them any way you want. Don't want a break - don't take one. Want one, take one. The law makes sense, but people should be able to say they don't want it.

    I don't have a shop. I work at a university now.

You can have a shop in a university.

Especially if it has an industrial arts major.

It's unionized, so of course there are breaks. I don't have to account for every second of my day, though.
