    Five guys, versus 22.

Buy one guy, you've got 20% of the court covered.

    Strong.

Though for those who think the NFL's inviolate, for heaven's sake, read "Interference".

STG, I have always felt a close three-point line was the undoing of pro hoops.

In the 1980s, the easiest way to score points was a fastbreak layup. Now, the easiest way to score points is an open three-pointer.

Move the line back to where it was, 23-9 (?), or get rid of it.

The contact allowed by officials now does not help either.

Also.... there are much more "subtle" calls that can be made in an NBA game.

Even a five-yard penalty in football, if called more than a couple times, will come under major scrutiny. And, there are about 10 officials at an NFL game.

The line is 23-9. It was moved in during the 95, 96 and 97 seasons (when Jordan set a career-best mark for three-point percentage and Dennis Scott went nuts with the 3-point record). But since 98, it's been back to 23-9.

I do think the college game has been overrun with the three-pointer. It's basically just drive and kick now, which gets old. The new distance there might change that. Teams definitely don't fastbreak the same way. Now the wings often drift out to the three-point line, instead of going to the basket, which is maddening as a 3 on 2 turns into a 24-foot shot.

And I understand that the documents in a courthouse adds weight to it. But, if prosecutors disregard his allegations, does that mean people will accept Donaghy was lying? Somehow I doubt it.

Stoney, I agree that one NBA ref can have a bigger impact than a single NFL official. But individual corruption is far different than what Donaghy is alleging the NBA did. Donaghy was corrupt. Definitely. And I do believe he affected games - his claim that he might have done so "subconsciously" is pretty laughable. I just think people mistake incompetence (there are lots of poorly officiated games) for conspiracy.

Holy cripes, Devil, when was the last time you actually watched an NBA game?

They can't "move the line back" to 23' 9", because that's where it already IS, the exact same place it was in the 80s. And, while the 3-pointer swallowing up the game might be a legitimate issue in college basketball, it certainly is NOT in the pros.

This posting thing tends to work better if you've some clue what you're talking about beforehand.

OK, I was way off with my facts ion the three-point line. I just assumed it was closer because the shot is swallowing up the NBA game.

In 87-88, the average NBA team attempted 410 threes a season and hit 32% of them.

In 06-07, the average NBA team attempted 1,389 threes a season and hit 36% of them.

I was just assuming the line was closer.

Shooting percentage, by the way, has dropped from .480 to .458.

How is this not getting as much play as Spygate?

Hmm... Videotaping practices and stealing signals or FIXING the GODDAMN PLAYOFFS?

How is this not creating more of a stir? Will that change when the NBA Finals and US Open are over?

I was about as off as someone saying the three is not swallowing up the NBA game.

Usually I fact check when I post here, but that was a slip up.

    Lo siento.

I think the undoing of pro basketball is the short basket. I think they should move it back up to 10 feet like it was in the 80s. What? It already is...... Well, I just assumed it was shorter because there's so much dunking today.
