A campaign against Obama based on birther crap is doomed to fail hard. It's one thing for that shit to have traction during midterm elections when an intensely interested minority can take advantage of low turnout. But in the general election, this idiocy will be exposed big time

Not only that, but what happens if, by some miracle, a voter asks Trump, "So, what does Obama's birth have to do with me getting a job and decent health care?"

Sorry, but Trump's not going away until another Republican grows the balls to take him on. They seem to think they can benefit from the shit Trump's throwing out there without getting their hands dirty.
There's enough room for a moderate Republican to grab the nomination, and possibly the White House, while the rest of the field races toward the gutter.

Other Republicans will eventually go after Trump. But they'll do it through surrogates rather than directly. Outside groups will run ads against him, and heaven knows there are plenty of things they can say that will sour the GOP base on him. But the candidates won't do it themselves because they don't want to alienate the portions of the GOP primary electorate that do support Trump.

That's pretty much the Romney strategy. My bio is the same as Donald Trump's except I'm not nuts and have my own hair (as far as is known).

Unless you count, you know, quite possibly saving us from a complete economic collapse that would have made the Great Depression look like a down day on Wall Street.

To truly gauge its effect, you can only measure the effect of the stimulus against where the country's economy would be without it. Logic 101.

I think you can make that argument about TARP -- a Bush initiative.

I'm not sure you can say the same about Obama's stimulus.

Why would they do that now?

I know a few have taken potshots at him, but why would you want to declare a full-fledged war on Trump when the person he's going after the most is Obama?

I really don't think there's any reason for any possible candidate to go after Trump at this point. He's not a serious candidate and the only result would be him going after that candidate.

Trump is no different from Al Sharpton. He gets a ton of publicity because he'll say anything, but the legitimate candidates stand to gain nothing from getting into a war with him. That goes for both parties.

At the very least, Trump is going to make GOP candidates spend money they wouldn't have otherwise had to spend. That's good news for the Democrats.

Thanks to the Supreme Court's intercession on behalf of poor underrepresented corporations, money will be the one thing Republican candidates don't have to worry about.

That's not going to happen as long as Trump sticks to the slobberfest on Fox and the rest of the right-wing suck-up circuit.
