And thank you for the avatar change. As for Trump, Pat Paulsen had more of a chance

Trump stole his gimmick from Vince McMahon

The difference between Paulsen and Trump is that some voters don't realize it is a joke.

I haven't been able to take him seriously since the Rosie O'Donnell dispute.

That's what it is all about - getting himself attention and boosting his various business interests, whether its driving up ratings for The Apprentice, drawing more guests to his hotels, or whatever.

The media is more than happy to give him the air time because his craziness drives up ratings for the newscast. People tune in to hear what crazy shit he'll say next, and the networks hope they'll stay tuned in for whatever else they're showing afterwards. Ratings = higher prices you can charge for advertising = more profits = happier shareholders.

Trump writes a letter to the editor:

I think it's in our best interests that we take no politician seriously.

And Gail responds to the Donald:

I don't see the point in responding to everything Trump says. You're playing into his hand if you do. Trump will just hit back again, and once you've engaged him, you lose if you quit fighting.

There's no way to come out of it looking good once you've stooped to his level.

Except, you know, those claims have been refuted to the point that the birther issue is inarguable among the sane.

There was a time in Germany when nobody took the silly little guy with the odd mustache seriously, either.
Times like these are when an electorate is most vulnerable to this garbage, particularly Republican voters who aren't thrilled with their choices right now.
We really can't equate Trump to Perot. While that might have been a valid comparison in Trump's earlier flirations with politics, he's chasing the GOP nod this time. Also, he's going hard right in a way he never did before.
Past contributions to Dems? Big deal. Wasn't Reagan a Dem once, too?
