    Moddy, I was thinking of you when I originally posted. No way am I putting Doyel's number and address on this site. I'm just pointing out that it's already out in the public domain.

    Gregg Doyel's talent at writing columns is why he's buried in a place where no one really comes to read columns anyway. If he was any good, he would be somewhere better.

    Headbutt, your point is valid (as most of yours are - well, some anyway).
    My point is we don't need to stoop to that level here, even if our audience is smaller.
    With the 'net, anyone with a clue can find out pretty much anything about anyone.

    No idea what Sportsline pays. I know the guys recently hired by ESPN are pulling in good coin, all with six figures before the decimal point.

    Oh I know what you're saying, and I agree mostly. However I wouldn't feel as bad if it happened to Doyel as I would if it happened to someone who doesn't come off like an enormous asshat.

    Yes, this thread is worth multiple pages. The general topic of standards of the Web and standards of conventional journalism must be pursued.
    Sure, the Internet is a different world than print, but it cannot be a haven for irresponsibility, childish retorts, etc. The entertainment value of this "Hate Mail Response" concept doesn't justify its existence as a column on a site devoted to sports and news.

    Here's what consumers care about:
    Issues
    Their favorite teams, athletes, etc
    Games people play

    Here's what they don't care about:
    The journalists who cover the above items
    Any problems -- logistical or otherwise -- that journalists have in providing the information

    THANK YOU! When will we realize people don't care about us. Dance, clown, dance! Don't whine about how hard it is to put on the costume.

    Also, don't complain about lack of free food. People give you free food when you are doing them a favor. We're not doing them a favor. We're doing our jobs. And shit, we can expense it anyway.

    FWIW, I've been told that CBS Sportsline does want their columnists to respond, on the site, to nasty e-mails. As was mentioned, they think it creates 'buzz.' However, this particular instance might be a wee bit over the top.

    How many of the columnists do you think live in or around Bristol? I'd guess none. They all have a "home base." I know i SportsLine's case, Doyel, Prisco, Judge, Miller, etc. do not live in Ft. Lauderdale.
