What do you think about the people who disagree with you on this position?

Do you at least agree that a person's gender identity is their own, and it's not Caleb Hannan's place to disclose this information to a third party?

Can we agree that the bolded portion there shouldn't be proffered as fact?

Kind of sounds like we're up to the chicken/egg discussion. Are they nuts because they're transgender or are they transgender because they're nuts?

Yeah, that's total bullshit. Serious question, YF. Have you even read this story? I just read most of it again to verify this claim of yours, and none of the things you are saying seem to fit the story I have read.

This is the only part of the story I noticed that bothers me in my second skimming of it:
The troubled man reference is not the part I dislike, because at the time Dr. V was troubled man, but saying she invented a new life seems on its face to imply that her becoming a woman was part of the ruse. I don't think it was meant that way ... I believe it is just poorly worded, because Dr. V DID invent a new life, but her being transgender is not part of that deception. Changing her name to Vanderbilt who is friendly with the Hiltons and claiming to be a a PhD who worked on the stealth bomber most certainly is..

Let's look at how one prominent sportswriter assessed the article, and then the reaction to it in real time:

This @calebhannan golf story contains many secrets. It's also batshit insane. Trust me. Read it: http://grantland.com...

Each revelation I was like, Okay, that has to be it... Oh, that's not it.

That's right. That wasn't it. They all led up to the ultimate revelation -- SHE'S A MAN BABY!

When it's suggested that Caleb acted unethically in outing Dr. V:

Unethical? Caleb's supposed to stop reporting a story because... because what?

Then the shock that it's still being discussed: The @calebhannan "debate" is still going strong, I see. I told some kids last week that you fight by celebrating what you love.

"Debate?" What Debate? There's nothing to debate here.

Let's skip over the sarcasm, we can revisit it if someone would like.

The accusation of faux outrage: Sometimes Twitter feels a competition to see who can muster the most rage in 140 characters.

And, now comes the self pity, and the anger that all are not deferring to his wisdom:

A lot of the language being used—like trans*—makes a movement that should be inclusive feel exclusive.

These terms feel like a way for people to demonstrate how enlightened they are, to separate themselves, when unity is the goal.

This is a larger issue than Twitter allows discussion for, and I'm already feeling regret.

I consider myself a friend of LGBT causes. I believe in equality. And yet these discussions make me feel like I don't belong.

I'm already on your side. We disagree on this story. That doesn't make me a transphobic bigot, as I've been called lately.

Hey, I have no problem with Caleb outing Dr. V, but I'm on your side. I'm no bigot. Some of my best friends are trans.

    And, stop calling me names!

YF, please show me where the giddy reveal is in this narrative ... I'll wait. The more you post, the more I think you haven't even read the story and want to get on your high horse about those damn journalists and how their irresponsibility killed this woman. I have already said that Hanna should NOT have outed her to the investor. But why did he not seem surprised? Probably because he had seen things from her that now seemed obvious.

Are these your words? Because that is simply not true. All of this stuff taken together is the story. Show me where the BIG REVEAL is here. Oh wait, you haven't had time to actually read the story.

Why did he out Dr. V to the investor? What was the point? Wouldn't the lack of the scientific credentials have been enough?

But, no. He wanted to see the reaction. First though, he let's us know that the investor might have had a little crush on the good Dr.:

Before I told him about her past, he told me that because of her height and vivid red hair, it was hard to miss the “pretty woman walking toward me in a miniskirt.”

This is perfect. He thinks she's pretty. Surely he'll flip when he learns she was once a man. He'll probably feel all icky inside.

But, instead, he's surprised at how calmly he takes the news:

Maybe the most surprising thing about my conversation with Kinney was how calmly he took the news that the woman he thought was an aerospace engineer had once been a man, and a mechanic.

Caleb, who had never met her, had a chill run up his spine when he learned the news. How could this guy who thought she looked great in a miniskirt have taken the news so differently?

There was no reason to tell him, except to see his reaction. And, he wanted the reaction, because he thought she was pretty.

YF, you're ratcheting up Caleb's excitement level about finding out that Dr. V was a man yet nobody -- NOBODY -- knows what was going through his mind once he put 2 and 2 together, except for Caleb.

But I agree (well, think) the investor had a thing for Dr. V and was investing in more than the putter.

I'm struggling to figure out whether you are currently on another planet, where words mean different things.

What would you call the last week of discussion on this thread other than a debate?
