YF, should gay, lesbian and transgendered people be allowed to get married? Yes or no.

And if I was the editor I would have said there is not enough fire here to start outing people and digging through their personal history. That's the journalistic debate here. I don't think people gave a shit enough about Oracle putters to bring this out.

My main issue is YF's assertion that if you support gay rights, to be consistent you must also support trans-gender issues. (For example, insurance coverage for gender reassignment.)

I completely reject this argument. For example, am I obligated to support people who want to be elephants?

Right. Gender identity is completely different from sexual orientation.

YF also seems to think that all groups gain mainstream acceptance instantaneously with the snap of one's fingers. As if the only reason gay people have been accepted is because the liberal Illuminati has decreed it so, while also decreeing that trans* people should not be.

I disagree. It's not like we have a nation of trans*ees just begging to become the other sex because it's cool. It's one out of how many? Very small number. These are people who have been born one thing but the wiring and the plumbing are not compatible. Why wouldn't we want to afford them the same benefits everyone else has?

I said nothing about benefits. Yes, they should be afforded the same as everyone else.

If you think gender identity and sexual orientation are the same thing, I don't know what to tell you.

Gay men are men, who are sexually attracted to other men.

Trans men are women in every way but physically.

OK, I read that as something else then. So to hone in on the part I quote-functioned ...

... are the two really different?

    Yes.
