There have been, BTW, more cases of Ebola exposure in Europe than in the U.S. There's concern, but not the pathetic panic we see here. Americans have become fear junkies.

Those reputable public health officials say the ban won't work but really they don't
provide solid explanation why. If you've heard one let me know.

What has the public alarmed is that the problems that have come up are due to poor planning and stupidity.

We are seeing a disconnect from what these experts told us 2 weeks ago and what has happened since.

Due to many well publicized issues trust in civil servants is at a all time low.

You know, a couple people joked/mocked that this was "Obama's Katrina" and the like.

As far as politics goes, the financial meltdown in 2008, and what it did to McCain and the Republicans is the best comparison.

Sure, Obama would have likely won anyway, but McCain was at his high water mark when it his, and he got swamped.

Ebola is killing Obama, and all Dems by extension. If there's panic, it's among Dem politicians begging for a travel ban and/or an Ebola Czar.

The Washington Post called it an "October Surprise":

Add it all up and you are left with this conclusion: Ebola is the October surprise of the 2014 midterms. That is, an unexpected event that has the potential to roil the electorate in all sorts of unpredictable ways.

The election is in 20 days. Given the news of two confirmed cases among Dallas health-care workers, the process of tracing the 132 passengers on the Cleveland-to-Dallas flight and the seeming expectation from health officials that more cases could be coming out of Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, it's hard to imagine the story not dominating the news -- broadcast, cable, print, Web and radio -- for the bulk of that time (and likely longer).

And, as mentioned above, the ubiquity of the experience of air travel turns what felt like an isolated and awful story in Texas into something that now has much of the nation on higher alert. Even before Wednesday's news, more than four in ten people (43 percent) were worried about the possibility that they or someone in their immediate family might catch Ebola -- including 20 percent who called themselves "very" worried in the Washington Post-ABC News poll. Two thirds of people in that same poll said they were concerned about the possibility of a broader Ebola outbreak in the United States. Those numbers will only go up -- and, in all likelihood, way up -- now.

If they were heavy hitters, they'd be boarding Metro-North in Greenwich, Scarsdale, or Bronxville. (Or they'd be in a chauffeured car, or heading to a trading desk in Greenwich or Stanford.)

Great point. Heavy hitters are not working today. Their headed to
Westchester County airport for a flight to Nantucket or Tallahassee for the
big game.

LOL. My older brother is not a heavy hitter. (He's a insurance defense lawyer, who's house is just on the wrong side of the Larchmont/New Rochelle border.) But he is an ND grad and is flying down to Florida today for the game.

The other evidence that he's not a heavy hitter is that he's flying commercial, and going in and out of Jacksonville.

Not really. Pull out a map. The Hartsdale station is directly across Scarsdale Country Club. If you go to the east side of the tracks you're in Scarsdale.

A society that operates on the principle of catering to fear and ignorance isn't going to have many happy endings. BTW, the Post piece was a misuse of the term "October Surprise" which is supposed to mean an event created by one candidate or party to influence voters, not an outside event itself.

Frontier Airlines pilots and flight attendants are now going to be isolated/quarantined. Cleveland Clinic nurses who were on the flight are too.

Schools in Ohio and Texas are closed, and medical workers signed legally binding documents agreeing to not travel or take public transportation. (Which meant we didn't need to declare a disaster in Dallas County to impose it without their consent.)

Best of all, I hope we get some video of the chopper that is going to whisk the medical worker off of the cruise ship she is on.

Will all the passengers be confined to Galveston, TX when the ship docks? Is Carnival going to just tow the ship out to sea and sink it once everyone disembarks?
