Some will call you a quitter, much like the kid who is on his 20th internship who called me a failed sports writer because I wanted to see my kids when they're awake.

OK Smasher, you are intentionally misrepresenting my thoughts, which is not surprising from you, but I think the logical and well-grounded posters here understand where I'm coming from. Maybe in a couple years when you realize you don't have all the answers that apply for everyone in every situation, you'll feel differently. I will leave the thread with this: You entered the discussion specifically to mock Colin for wanting to get away from the unhealthy and unhappy lifestyle he felt destined for if he continued in this business. Says nothing about Colin or any of us, and quite a bit about you.

    Good luck, Colin.

Hope you don't try to use a drive-thru riding that high horse, Smasher.

Sorry, you two, but what he said was nothing but right.

I know I get a little weary of people thinking that a 63-year-old journalist equals a chain-smoking, half-dead, permanently angry crank.

Just four! You need to count a little better. ;)

And I don't think Colin is a quitter. He made a decision based on what he valued most in life.

What's the difference between him quitting and me if they were for similar reasons? I get where Nighthawk is coming from. With you, who knows?

Did he say that is everybody? Or just where he thought he was headed? I thought it was the latter, but I could be wrong.

I commend Colin for making the right decision for him and his; making such a right decision can really be hard to make. And Beej, I think you did get in a debate with a young Trentonian guy (different handle) back in the day

  9. I didn't call anyone a quitter. I said with all honesty that Colin should be congratulated on his decision. If you made that decision, you also should be congratulated. I would hope that if I got in that situation, I'd make the same choice. However, I don't have that much confidence in myself.

  10. This I didn't really get, because the only things I'm out to conquer are visiting every restaurant shown on Man vs. Food and visiting every MLB park. Five MvF cities and 10 MLB parks down so far. I've got a long way to go there.

But conquer the world? I'm a sportswriter, not Carl Bernstein.

    At least he admits it.
