Even serioulsy considering the idea that the paper shoud run the photo as-is shows Isom wasn't qualified to be their adviser.

Wait? Is there some sort of auto change on this site now or did a mod change my post? I didn't write "pussycat" I wrote the c-word. (but the actual word, not "c-word").

Are there new rules on what words can be used in a post now? (If there is a rule against that word, that's fine. I won't miss it and can't really think of a time when I've used it previously. I was just surprised when I saw my post was changed.)

That autochange has been on the site for about 10 years now. We had a few a-holes (still have a few a-holes) who thought it funny to work that in to every post. So Webby made the change.

What he didn't know at the time was it changed it every time those letters appeared in that order. Thus, we had a discussion once about a boxing commissioner named Apussycato.

I would not be surprised if his firing has little-to-nothing to do with the streaker photos. The only person saying it does is the person who was fired.

Can't say I'm surprised. ECU says the firing was not related to the photos.

An East Carolina University official said today that the decision to fire the student newspaper adviser was related to an undisclosed personnel matter separate from any First Amendment issues.

"We ask all advocacy groups and the public to trust our internal process, which has been deliberate, correct and legal, as we move forward to address these two separate issues," said a prepared statement by Virginia Hardy, vice chancellor for student affairs.

ECU officials have been the target of criticism after the firing last week of Paul Isom, the director of student media since 2008 and adviser to The East Carolinian newspaper.

Hardy's statement reiterated support for the student journalists.

"The First Amendment demands public universities provide student journalists the opportunity to make their own news decisions and learn from them without interference," the statement said. "ECU puts that principle first. It has upheld it, especially in this instance."
