Don't put me in that camp, please. I have railed against that kind of thinking all along.

But if the gushing media (the one he treats like feces) insist on giving him overwhelming credit for the wins, then he should get blame for the losses.

  2. Personally, i hate field goal kickers. Never leave the game in their hands if you have a chance. Neva evva evva. snaps get bobbled, kickers slip, defenders make great plays. If it's a tie game, maybe. But you are lining up a field goal which decides a win or a loss? hell no.

Like I said on another thread after a game in which a team - again - kicked the game-winner on third down: This never happens. Everyone kicks early, but no one can recall any play in which it paid off.

Conceding a touchdown from the 18? That's just stupid talk radio.

    1) Tynes from 30-49 yards in the last two years is 11 for 17 -- hardly automatic -- so I don't think assuming a 35-yard field goal on the biggest stage of his life would be the wisest course of action.

    2) You'd be eliminating the chance -- unlikely but not impossible -- of a turnover by the Giants.

    3) There are all kinds of strategic decisions, such as an incomplete pass or a player stepping out of bounds, that would leave you more time.

    4) Finally, if you just part the seas for an 18-yard run, surely Bradshaw realizes what's up at, say, the 5-yard line and you've just given them first down and the ability to run clock.

The one thing you could say is that once it was first down at the 7, with 1:09 left, that's when the Pats should have conceded and kept seven more seconds and a timeout. But no way do you just give it up from the 18.

This is just a silly post. Manning is a snotty rich kid whose dad championed his trade to the Giants. It was a bullshit move. I can still see him pouting alongside the commissioner now. Brady cried because of the support he was given by his family and the idea that he may not get drafted at all.

I'm sure you were quite moved by his crocodile tears.

And he'd already been drafted by a professional sports team.

  7. I just see an opportunity to take the lead, points that are there and can't be disputed. You take them. Right before the score, I told a buddy of mine that if you are playing for the FG, Eli should just take a knee on what would have been second down, I believe, and force the pats to take their final time out. If I'm a Giants fan, I don't want to introduce any more potential problems into the equation than necessary. Take the snap, which is the first potential problem, and end it there. Even the handoff is an unnecessary risk. Maybe that's just me . . . I know I am overly worried about this at times. So even though I totally understand the philosophy, and that 99 out of a hundred field goals are made from the five, I would just take the TD when it is given to me and not stress the field goal.

I don't know if it's arrogance with Brady as much as it is the trappings of celebrity combined with total adherence to the Belichick Way. He was a breath of fresh air that first season -- unscripted, always smiling, a bit in wonder at how he had arrived there. After the Tuck Rule game he came out in that little cycling hat and just kind of stumbled through his answer to the "was it a fumble" question. It really went with the out-of-nowhere narrative.

By 2003 he was dating an actress, suing companies over advertising technicalities, holding reporters at arm's length, saying nothing of note in press conferences, he had built an entourage. Complete 180 from how he entered the league. Now, I can't really blame him because every time he tries to say anything remotely amusing he gets dinged for it (see the whole thing about wanting Pats fans to have a drink before a game). But the corporate overhaul certainly hasn't made him more likable.

Tony Romo and Leon Lett would like a word with you.
(For the record, I can't remember if those were third- or fourth-down plays, just examples of field goal attempts gone horribly wrong)

So what do you think the odds are of the kick failing, and what do you think the odds are of the Patriots scoring in the situation that resulted?

Because EVERY great coach has chinks in their armour and flaws in their resume. Can you explain why Coughlin has failed to finish above .500 seven different seasons in his career?

Bottom line: Belichick has 5 Super Bowl appearances and 3 Super Bowl wins, Coughlin has 2 appearances and 2 wins, Belichick has the undefeated regular season, Belichick's teams have won FAR more consistently, have generally had far better regular season records and advanced further in the playoffs.

Belichick clearly and undisputably has the far better cumulative coaching record, a couple SB losses to Coughlin does not change that overriding fact, and he will be remembered by history as the better coach.

I cannot believe anyone thinks of the Mannings as snotty.
