Kudos to Eric for manning up and apologizing the first time. But to apologize over and over? It's not going to help the cause. If people are upset and don't accept the apology, apologizing repeatedly won't help it get accepted. Of course, take out the repeated apologies and there's not much left to the column.

Don't apologize, just do better work.

I still think Rivers was hurt this year. I have never bought into the kid like some, but what he showed this season does not represent his overall career.

Given the information I had at the time, no, I was not wrong. With the exception of the occasional hot streak, Manning had not played like an elite quarterback until this season. Rivers had. Coming into this season, Roethlisberger and Rivers had both been the better quarterbacks, so it was not at all unreasonable to say the Giants made a mistake in trading Rivers and high draft picks for Manning. Before this season, the Chargers clearly had gotten the better end of the deal.

Now that the information has changed, I'll grant that the deal looks a hell of a lot better for the Giants. Manning didn't have the slumps of his past, particularly late in the season.

Of course, they still could have had Roethlisberger and the draft picks and he has been the better player when you take their entire careers into consideration. Sure, they wouldn't make that deal given the off-field issues, but nobody knew about that at the time of the draft.

But hey, you don't really seem to care what information people actually had at the time they made their arguments. I guess the Steelers should be scolded for drafting a future accused rapist, right?

Knowing everything we know now? Including the off-field issues? Manning definitely goes first. I might even take Rivers over Roethlisberger just because I don't trust the big idiot to stay out of trouble.

Take away the off-field problems? I'd still rather have Roethlisberger than Manning, even with the injuries. Sure, some of that is playing style, but protection also plays a role in all those injuries. No matter who you take, you have to find blockers to keep him upright.

The difference between Manning and Roethlisberger, playing wise, really is very dramatic. Manning never takes chances. He is not forcing anything and not doing anything stupid on the field. He is making the plays that need to be made, very well mind you, and winning a lot of football games.

Roethlisberger always takes chances. He always forces plays or tries to extend plays and gamble a great reward for a sack, fumble or interception. But he also wins a ton of games, and has danced in the big game three times to Eli's twice.

Heading into next season, I would find it very hard to pick one over the other. I guess it depends on what type of QB you want taking snaps.

I'm not sure that is fair at all to Manning given how often he takes shots down the field.

Rivers played through a torn ACL in the playoffs. That sounds plenty tough to me.

Manning did a great job this offseason deciding when to throw it away or tuck it in. He just flat out played great football.

Anyone check out the video of Gronk dancing like a Jersey Shore tranny in a bar in Indy? His ankle looked top notch, and he sure seemed happy after losing the biggest game of his life.
