I bet it would rate high on a best beach to get your ass kicked list.

Hammond is worse than Gary, no?

    Fixed.

Love this from neighborhoodscout.com: Safer than 6 percent of U.S. Cities!

If I want to get murdered near water, Camden is a much shorter drive for me.

I'm a reasonably well-traveled guy, and until a couple of Facebook friends from that area started sharing family pics, I never realized the beaches there are as nice as they are.

My wife grew up in the Michigan City/Chesterton area. When she first took me there and I — having grown up near the much less pleasant Lake Erie beaches — was stunned, like this New York Times writer. Beautiful beaches and on a weekday there was hardly anyone there. Parking within a mile of the beach. Great hiking on the dunes. A brewery near Washington Park. It's wonderful. And dirt cheap.

If you'd like to have a logical explanation
How I happened on this elegant syncopation,
I will say without a moment of hesitation
    There is just one place
    That can light my face.
    Gary, Indiana,
    Gary Indiana,
Not Louisiana, Paris, France, New York, or Rome, but--
    Gary, Indiana,
    Gary, Indiana,
    Gary Indiana,
    My home sweet home.

Are you talking about 18th Street Brewery? It's tremendous beer. There's one in Hammond now, too.

The Miller Beach area of Gary is like another world. I remember when I started work in that area, I asked my editor, "Which school do the kids in Miller go to?" "Andrean," he deadpanned. (The Catholic school in bordering Merrillville.)

Starting to sound like the sand beat at the NYT is up there with the Poin beat at the Daily Mail.

Nice to read a Times travel piece, however, that doesn't compare the locale to "gentrified Brooklyn."

They did throw in a reference to Mackinac Island, for some unknown reason.

Used to enjoy going to the Indiana Dunes.

And didn't Trump used to own a casino in Gary? How's that doing [/oopsnopolitics]

Terrible, just like everything of his here. He fleeced everyone, like he always does.
