I never did either, but some of the pots at high school football games definitely got my attention.

So are 50/50 raffles at NFL games a thing nationwide? When did that happen? I don't remember them 15 years ago when I was covering, but I've seen them in two stadiums in recent years.

California changed its law a couple years ago allowing 50/50 raffles at pro events. It's become a huge fundraiser for teams' foundations.

I'm assuming it's similar in other states.

This is the second season doing 50/50 at Ducks games. Gets between $10,000 and $20,000 a night. Apparently in Edmonton, they reach six figures every game.

Years ago, our local youth baseball leagues didn't have a 50/50 because one of the board members was a cop and he wouldn't allow it.

I'm guessing his chief wasn't going to bust them over the nightly $37 split pot.

But that's in Canadian dollars ... so worth about $459 USD. ;)

I was at a high school football game that had a 50/50 haul of $16,000. I would not give that ticket to a random kid.

So you partake in pizza and brownies and call someone a fatass for eating during games? How noble. Better make it 5-6 times a week working out Doc.

I work out 3-4 times a week. Headed to the gym right now for weights. I did 6 1/2 miles yesterday. I'm 6-foot and 172 pounds. I eat in moderation. Happy New Year.

Just bustin' your balls. Put on some muscle. 6-foot, 172 sounds unhealthy. :)

There was one school in the league I cover that used to have a food truck at the games. They made some great steak and cheese subs and other things. The problem was they cooked everything to order. Even if you ordered at the start of halftime, you'd probably miss the start of the third quarter while waiting for it.

I covered a game there this fall for the first time in several years (when the league split into large and small school divisions, it didn't play the team I cover for eight or nine years). They didn't have the food truck anymore, just a stand that served hot dogs, pizza, candy, drinks and chips.

Thanks to my work schedule, I couldn't go to my 40-year reunion this past October at my suburban Chicago high school. But a few people who went to the homecoming football game told me the food options had been massively upgraded since our day, when refreshments were limited to peanuts, stale popcorn, inedible hot dogs and thimble-sized cups of Pepsi. Local restaurants have built stands inside the stadium entrance, and among the available items are pulled pork, Italian beef and Italian sausage, Chicago-style deep dish pizza, ice cream and several varieties of coffee. With all that food, who cares if the team wins or loses?
