Ed's book on Daytona is also well worth reading, especially the late chapters when it talks about the 2001 race.

Ed Hinton is a damn good journalist, and I'll be better off for his return.

    You've never met Ed Hinton.
I'm glad to see him back.

I bet Ed's excited to be covering NASCAR races outside the state he works in again. Good news for racing fans.

Massive talent. Good man. Unparalleled raconteur.

I have yet to find a better storyteller over drinks.... oh, and he ain't bad at the keyboard, either.

    The best there is.

And lest anyone forget, he is more than just a NASCAR reporter. He is equally knowledgable, and equally willing to write, about IndyCar, F1, etc.

One more time, for good measure, Hinton's story on Roger Maris' funeral:

    Classic stuff.

I tried to re-read Hinton's stories before and after Earnhardt's crash but the Sentinel archives said "file not found"...anyone wanna help there?
