Oh yeah, he's missed by those who enjoy the bipolarized musings of the clinically insane.

Can I address this, between friends?

The dude did a couple things here that were not cool, and I understand why he was exited, or exited on his own. Not sure which, doesn't matter.

But in general, a board for and about sports media has to be broad enough to incorporate the popular and unpopular, and not burst into flames when someone (in this case Whitlock) goes against the grain. Which he did often, if not constantly. So what? He makes it work for him, professionally, and folks here can learn as much from that as they can from some of the other scribes who are regularly canonized here.

To me, the entire history of the board has revolved around 'the bipolarized musings of the clinically insane.' You, me, everyone. Well, maybe not Moddy, he seems relatively normal but everyone else for sure.

I'm just not feeling this nostalgia for the alleged long-lost Camelot days of SJ. We started here before facebook, before twitter, before blogs...folks have found other ways to socialize and talk about things. What used to be an SJ thread might now just go into a tweet or a blog post. It's not good or bad, it is what it is.

Not intending to kick up more dust on this already-exhausted thread, but just wanted to add that.

Everyone has his/her own "golden" days of sj. Mine don't center on when certain writers roamed the bytes, but others may feel differently.

The only posters I really miss are ClubberSlang, Tron and Khartoum.

Unless they've come back under different names. Then I don't have to miss them.

Khartoum posts like every 9 months. He just posted a week or so ago.

The other two, as far as I know, are long gone. :(

    Just discovered this thread.

As much as I've battled with folks here, I've only ever developed hard feelings for two or three, and you're obviously in that group. That said, this post really struck me. Reading it makes me regret some of my more petty & mean spirited posts.

I don't know why people let Boom bother them so much. I get a kick out of him. He's funny and he's having fun. Take what he says with a grain of salt and laugh with him. If his posts piss you off, you didn't get the joke.

It's interesting that people get most upset not when they're attacked, but when they are defending a friend, whether it's Doc with SportsChick or Jones with MacGregor. People can let criticisms of themselves roll of their back, but let it get very personal defending their friend's honor.

I've always had outsider status here, and I get that it pisses some people off. But, this place is an incredible collection of people. The collective knowledge, humor, passion, and compassion is impressive.

It's nice to see some of the old faces back. Hopefully they'll stick around. The more participation -- the more diverse opinions -- the better.

Some of my favorite posters are the ones I disagree with most. And some of those same posters have been extremely kind to me.

And, thanks to the Mods for letting the conversation go. I would have hated to have discovered it only after it was locked.
