That may be the best one-word encapsulation of someone I have ever seen.

And y'all, Rosie's in the house. Clear off the beds, we're heading to our rooms.

If she's watching the Twins game we're all doomed.

Well, umm, i went ahead and read the piece before posting.
thompson is, in my opinion, a travel writer covering sports.
the piece was engrossing because he captured the little details that put you there.
i enjoyed it and will make gf read it since i printed it out to tale with me.
as far as alma's posting history. If the idea was to get some buzz and have people talking, mission accomplished. I'm a tad disappointed alma hasn't spoken, outside of starting the thread. That isn't the first time he's done that either.
    *shrug*

If you hadn't gotten the virginity thing out of the way, no way you'd force her to read a 5,000-word story on cricket, no matter how good.

Defending your friends is a good thing, but it also depends on how you do it. More emotion is involved, obviously, and sometimes that leads to nastier comments than what should otherwise be made.

That being said, I agree that Alma should absolutely make a critique of the article before he dumps and runs. It's lazy or cowardly or whatever you want to call it to start a thread in this fashion. And I wouldn't blame anyone for his/her ire at the way this thread was initially framed - especially if the author is a friend.

    Not quoting this. Framing it.

ONE night I'm busy and can't stalk this site, and THIS is what I miss. Damn.

My $1.27: I don't understand the anger and bitterness from someone who seemingly has life by the balls — personally and professionally. Of course, there's no way to know if that's the case, but it seems to me there are plenty of people around here who really have things to complain about, but they don't. This is a great place at times — except when it's boring, but that's not anyone's fault in particular; I can be needy — and it's because of this place that I'm living a life I never thought possible. Ultimately, though, it's a message board. You can never "win" any battles. So there's no reason to get caught up in them. And while I'm as guilty as anyone else of getting carried away, I'm reminded of sitting in bed late one night and seeing a thread titled "RIP Ron Drogo". I had never met spnited, and didn't much get along with him in our sj roles, but my heart sunk instantly when I saw that. I felt an enormous sense of guilt for all the stupid comments I had made to him (and everybody else) over the years. No matter how much these exchanges on sj take up our time, there's so much more to our lives (even those of us who waste too much time around here), and so much more to be thankful for, such as having great friends who are wise and talented. Some of us don't have that and never have. Don't let the bullshit get in the way of what's important.

And in an unrelated item, an excited Jim Fregosi was compulsed to visit this thread without having an idea why.

I blame McKechnie Field for all this. That place messes with your head.
