That would be accurate, but not sure if the TP will search or move somebody.

Well, good newspapers closed in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas and Baltimore back in the 80s when the industry was supposedly printing money, too.

Yeah, but they were second and third papers in the market.

Yes, there is an opening, but it sounds like they're moving quickly to find a replacement and aren't advertising. My understanding is they're aiming big.

Nola.com just hired Ron Higgins away from the Commercial-Appeal for the SEC beat. Considering that, do you think they'll settle for this job?

And you're right that Advance has been recruiting more than advertising for their openings, at least at Nola.com. Higgins' position is a prime example. You won't find that job on the job board here.

I'm told, from a most reliable portion of The Pipeline: Vaughn McClure going to Atlanta to cover the Falcons. In Chicago now, I believe he's been doing the Bulls but has NFL experience.

Eric Williams from the Tacoma News Tribune has taken the San Diego Chargers beat for ESPN according to his Twitter account. There has been a lot of moving around in the media as it pertains to Seattle. Christian Caple coming back to Seattle to cover the Huskies beat for the TNT, Todd Dybas to the Seahawks beat for the TNT, Jayson Jenks covering the Seahawks as a backup behind Bob Condotta and Geoff Baker moving to an investigative reporter for the Seattle Times, no longer the Mariners beat writer.

Pleased to announce that I will move to San Diego to cover the #Chargers for @ESPN, starting Sept. 19. Thankful for the new opportunity.

Interesting that quite a few of the later hires have come from outside the market.

I wonder if, in these cases, ESPN struck out in the local market or was not impressed by what was available.

The exception to this is Triplett from the T-P to the ESPN Saints beat. But there's a different backstory there that I don't know enough about to elaborate on. But suffice to say, there was a hangup back in July that kept the move from happening quicker that had nothing to do with the mutual interest of the two parties.

Eric's a good guy. Happy for him. Plus, living in San Diego definitely better than living in Seattle. Both are very nice, but the weather and beaches in San Diego cannot be beaten anywhere else on the West Coast.

I'd bet Seattle is rated higher than San Diego on mosts lists. It's No. 2 vs. No. 9 San Diego on Bloomberg/BusinessWeek's: http://buswk.co/1gdabXg

I'll take either and be happy.
