ESPN Radio seemed really reliant on small markets. If they were in a bigger market, there was local programing taking up time.

So many of their shows were middle of the road blah. The interesting ones were 10-2 or weekends overnight.

Yet Norby Williamson stays. He has naked pictures of a lot of people, apparently.

I flip around the dial on the way home from work in the morning and the Damon Allendara show at that hour seems more interested in themselves than talking about sports - its bizarre. I really don't care about what a producer cooked in the microwave for 20 minutes. Back to Jonas Knox, Lavar Arrington and Brady Quinn.

Maller is great in the middle of the night.

Yeah, I don't know what works. I just know what I like. At some point talking sports for 24 hours straight doesn't work. Guys like Maller, Van Pelt, Russillo, and LeBatard were interesting, but I could see how they wouldn't fly national.

Maybe they’ll give it to the night guys, Freddie and Fitzsimmons. They are pretty good.

Amazing, isn't it? He may turn out the lights when he takes his photos with him.

It's going to be Pat McAfee and all his buddies throughout the day. CBS Radio has the JR Sportsbrief show on the evenings, not to be confused with Jim Rome - which is great, a nice departure from their usual fare which sounds like bar talk from Long Island. Rome's show hasn't aged well - he just doesn't get the top interviews anymore.

Freddie Coleman used to annoy the absolute shit out of me when he first got on ESPN Radio 20 years ago. Anytime I heard his voice, the channel changed. At this time I also had few decent radio options, so shutting off ESPN Radio made dull drives even more dull. He's gotten better, I suppose.

Is Rome relevant anymore? On the rare occasions I listen, I feel like his show is stuck in 2002 and he's still interviewing the same people.

I can't imagine the business model for ESPN Radio is that great anymore with podcasts now in place.

I've pruned my world where I only care about NFL, college football, some NBA and a whole lot of sports betting/gambling podcasts. That means Simmons, Cowherd, Rusillo, Middlekauff, Mitch & Pauly VSIN, RJ Bell Dream Preview and some Bet The Board... and that's it. THAT is my "radio station", I suppose.

And on a lot of those stations, unless they do some local programming, the station is run by the hard drive 24/7.
