That all being said it seems like Jones and MacGregor's names ought'a've been in that list. Have they been gone longer than 10 years?

It means ESPN was the default setting for folks knowing that, whatever was on, they'd watch or have it in the background noise.

The best point Curtis made was that you turned to ESPN to hear about the games on elsewhere. Perhaps even games you had just watched.

I’m only 37 so maybe I’m missing something generationally. But I never did that.

It's definitely a generational thing...so long ago, I'd forgotten I did it myself until it was mentioned here. But I'd want to see ESPN breaking down the game I'd just seen in the '90s. Now? There's nothing I want less.

It was so prominent Aaron Sorkin wrote a show about it. And even got a second season!

No question it had a limited shelf life. I for one liked Craig Kilborn, but he stretched it, for sure. And that was 25 years ago. At this point, ESPN would be better off not trying to be funny or particularly witty. (I don't find SVP either, though others may disagree.)

How did they not monetize a podcast line-up that could’ve included the Simmons grouping, the LeBatard grouping, Dan Patrick, Rich Eisen, Scott Van Pelt and Colin Cowherd?

Three decades ago, the Web was in its infancy and it might take a minute or two for a static page to load. Video was theoretically possible, but you could replay the entire game in the time it took to download 60 seconds worth of highlights. SportsCenter was THE place you went to see highlights and analysis (sometimes even good analysis!) It was not only convenient, it provided a common platform for discussing games among your buddies who followed sports.

I wonder if, at one time, they'd have thought that would kill their radio biz.

I watched Sports Night as a tween….. that was sportscenter yeah? Never was able to remember if Dan or Casey was supposed to be Olberman.

But when I tuned in to watch Sportscenter I knew it was on, it was never, let me check in and see if it is

I would watch the repeat of the same Sportscenter four to six times in a row during the summer in the mid-1990s.

Four of those names left before podcasting got big.
