Euro 2008 — Running Thread

Ah, cram it.

 

Could be a lonely bench for Faith Terim. Hopefully Hakan Sukur has his cell phone charged....

 

This is the first time I've really paid attention to international soccer since the last World Cup, so if I'm a dumbass, I'm sure y'all will let me know.

But they're considering changing the rules because Turkey's running out of players? Seriously? After they had a chance to call guys up and didn't?

 

The thing is, we're not told in the story when Terim would have been able to call up injury replacements into the squad. Is it after the end of the group stage? As far as I know, you're only allowed to make replacements before the tournament starts. If a few of your squad gets injured, and then a few others are stupid enough to get booked twice or sent off, then it's bad luck, but nothing that UEFA can help.

They can probably appeal to UEFA considering the circumstances, but there's no guarantee it will get approved.

 

I just enjoy the fact that Nihat is questionable with a "thigh complaint".

 

Word I heard out of the Turkish camp was that his thigh just wouldn't shut up, continually moaning about how much pain it was it.

 

If Dino Zoff got canned for losing in the Euro final, I'm sure Donadoni is on his way out.

 

Anybody else going into football DTs today?

After 15 consecutive days of the Euros, I'm feeling a bit lost without a match to watch today.

 

I am. I had planned my days around watching the Euros. Now I'm lost. I guess I have to do some work now. That sucks.

 

I've got Wimbledon to tide me over. Andy Murray plays tomorrow!

 

I've already got my Scotland jersey ready!

 

I could use a day or two away from the Euros. Those 8:30 a.m. kickoffs tend to catch up to me on deadline.
