There’s an end to this drama surrounding the lost and it’s an ugly end, and it makes me sad. Because I think the takeaway for a lot of men will be the Pence approach. A closing of the ranks so they include fewer women, not more.

Well, it could be that business starts being just ... business.

In a lot of work contexts, it already is.

Hollywood and celebrity media has been a shithole for years

I believe I have read you pushing the Pence thing before here. Maybe I am wrong.

The Pence approach is draconian, and wrong on several levels.

Maybe I am a Pollyanna, but I still believe that adult men and women can still act as, well, adults.

I agree. They can. They do. I have. I do.

But the Pence approach has a certain kind of logic for men in considerable power.

If you are in any kind of "power" relationship -- boss/employee, etc. -- you're a fool not to follow the Pence approach.

But hey, if you want to be a fool, be my guest. Not my problem.

No, your problem is supporting a sexist policy that can be used to unfairly steer opportunities toward men.

So if you have a business dinner with a woman, you need to have your wife there while you eat your burnt steak with ketchup.

    Okay.

Whenever I worked alongside women who were my subordinates, I would mention my wife and kids within minutes. It wasn’t exactly a formal policy I had, but I wanted to put people at ease that I didn’t have any bad intentions.
