Then it comes out that it was terrorism after all. Administration backs up, says, whoops, it wasn't the video, Hillary was right the first time. But Republicans go nuts because they see political gain from this.

That about sums it up.

Contrast that again, with WMDs in Iraq. The GOP was still insisting on them existing two years after the war had started, and none had been found, except for some old ones that St. Ronnie gave them in the 80s to fight Iran.
